Mission:
My mission as a vocal coach is to walk alongside my students on their journey to become the vocalist they want to be, offering the support, experiences, and training each individual student needs to find their own brand of success. I am passionate about helping students become aware of their own unique sound, learn to face their vocal and mental challenges, and make positive changes in their technique, mindset, and artistry. As a lifelong learner, I am fascinated by the child and adolescent singing voice, how it connects to other areas of personal growth and development, and the ways students use these skills to excel in group or personal performances. Additionally, I am passionate about music and singing as a positive emotional and mental outlet for young people, and strive to help students connect with music in a way that brings fulfillment and personal expression into their lives. I strive to always be the kind of vocal coach that lifts, inspires, listens, re-directs, encourages, and brings honesty and respect to the vocal coach/student relationship. It’s important to me to help students identify the strengths and skills they already possess, and build upon those as they embark on their voice journey. I am continually seeking learning and advancement opportunities that help me stay curious about and open to new approaches and advances in the world of voice pedagogy, always recognizing that there is so much more for me to learn and gain from those around me, be it experts in the field, colleagues, or my students themselves.
In one-to-one lessons, I prize being involved in the lives of my students, mentoring each on a personal level. This includes counseling students on their performance and training decisions, coaching and filming auditions, offering anytime virtual coaching via Marco Polo, attending their performances, celebrating their successes, and helping them work through their fears and failures. I deeply value these interpersonal relationships with my students and prioritize long-term relationships, always grateful for the opportunity to watch young singers learn new skills and grow as artists and people.
I truly believe that young people need adults in their lives who are respectful, caring, and compassionate, and trained in how to provide the kind of support and encouragement that youth today really need. I am committed to continuing to learn about how singing affects and is affected by mental health challenges, gender identity, culture, and other sensitive issues. Awareness and training in these subjects allows me to meet my students where they are and to work with them through a variety of different struggles that can affect and influence an artist.
As a private vocal coach, my strengths include listening effectively, seeking to deeply understand, and using my knowledge and experience with the voice to create training plans for students that yield real results.
